The missile used in the hit was not an RS-26, as it was stated by the Ukrainian media. It was in fact an experimental missile, called Oreshnik. It has a range of around 1000-3000 km which covers all of Europe. It is important to note that this missile looks very similar to RS-26 (maybe even based on the same platform), which is why Ukrainian officials have identified it as the RS-26 Rubezh.

In mid-July 2024, the US Army deployed the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), also known as Dark Eagle, for the first time in history.

The LRHW system was deployed by the 1st Multi-Domain Task Force during the Resolute Hunter Exercise at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
